"The greatest sources of our suffering are the lies we tell ourselves."                               Elvin Semrad

Life takes some twists and turns that we just aren't prepared for. From parenting challenges to wanting to improve your marriage to struggling with that relentless fear that gets in the way of something you desire in your life. I am here to help you navigate through the confusion, identify your goals and help you work toward them. It takes a lot of courage to admit your life isn't what you imagined it would be. And even more courage to admit that to someone else. Let me be that someone for you. My approach is always compassionate and non-judgmental. Clients appreciate my diverse way of helping them find the best tools for their particular issues. I am constantly amazed at the resiliency of the human spirit and I consider it a privilege to walk with others on their journey.

Professionally, not only do I have many years of experience in the medical field but I also have many years helping others during times of great joy and great pain. Personally, I have experienced divorce, single motherhood, remarriage and blended families, issues with teenagers, suicide, dissension in the family, and holidays alone.

My goal is to create a safe, affirming place for you and/or your partner or entire family to feel heard and understood and to find the tools you need to move forward. I am passionate about helping couples enhance their connection, navigate infidelity, repair broken relationships, and improve their communication. For those just entering a committed relationship, I am a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator and offer pre-marital counseling to enhance understanding and strengthen partnerships from the start.

Experience

I'm a Retired Nurse.
and I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist.

I began my journey to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist by a long career in Nursing. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in Nursing. I started out in the area of Maternal/Infant health in Labor and Delivery (now called Birthing Centers) where I helped families welcome their new babies. I taught classes in Lamaze, parenting, infant care and breast feeding and loved the interaction with the parents. I then decided to challenge myself and went back to school and studied Nurse Anesthesia where I graduated from Kansas Neuman, becoming an APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse) and a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner). I practiced for 35 years beginning back in Labor and Delivery and then Pain Management before I retired. I soon realized that I needed to continue my work helping others and I returned to Friends University where I obtained my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy.I recently trained with the Gottman Institute in Seattle and now I am a Certified Trainer in "Bringing Baby Home" and the "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work". I also completed Gottman Level 1 and 2 training with John and Julie Gottman. I have finished training in EMDR for trauma and PTSD. For those couples preparing for marriage, I can help them with Prepare and Enrich training.
